What is your business/service learning activity?
The Bracelet Foundation seeks to act as an online platform between sufferers of mental illness, and their full recovery.
This is based on peer-to-peer support, as opposed to intervention that is completely adult driven.
This plays out through various social media accounts. When an individual in crisis contacts The Bracelet Foundation, they are given various coping strategies to work through the imminent problem. Once that has been solved and there is no longer a risk of self-injury, suicide, or any other possible danger to the individual, The Bracelet Foundation then proceeds to bridge him or her to professional care, with hotlines and online counselling services such as Beyond Blue and Headspace.
Another main aspect of The Bracelet Foundation is the commitment to raise awareness amongst the community (emphasis on local) through campaigns and information. Having an understanding of the impacts of mental illness is the key to reducing the stigma that surrounds it.
With one in five people experiencing mental health issues, educating those who are unaware of the extremities of mental illness is crucial. We are currently in the process of lining up a partnership with The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health to start a donation scheme, so The Bracelet Foundation can be officially donating a cut of any profit to the research and work towards a cure of mental illness.
What does The Bracelet Foundation aim to do?
The Bracelet Foundation is a not for profit organization dedicated to showing those who struggle with mental illnesses that there is hope and that recovery is possible. The Bracelet Foundation seeks to inspire, encourage, and offer support to all those needing it. In addition to that, The Bracelet Foundation is dedicated to educating communities on the impact of Mental Illness, not only on the individual, but also their families and support group.
This will contribute to the long term goal of getting rid of the stigma that surrounds mental illness.
The Bracelet Foundation aims to maintain an online presence and connection with sufferers of mental illness, so that we will be able to implement hope in the lives of those who are struggling, and eventually expand the online component to be completely self-contained.
